Auto Fraud

A car is the single largest purchase most people make next to a home!  

The Auto Fraud Section is here to provide you with information on a wide selection of topics that affect the Louisiana car buyer.  You can request free educational brochures and fact sheets on a variety of auto issues by calling our CONSUMER INFO-LINE at 1-800-351-4889.

The Auto Fraud Section can also assist you by investigating and mediating consumer complaints.  If you haven't received a satisfactory response after filing a complaint directly with the dealership where you bought the vehicle, you can file a complaint with our office.  Our mediators are specially trained and will be happy to assist you.

Although the Attorney General's Auto Fraud Section can counsel and give you information, keep in mind that we cannot:

  • give legal advise or initiate legal action
  • recommend a business or product
  • give business reputation information
  • act as a consumer's private attorney
We usually learn of fraud through consumer complaints. If you think you have been victimized, don't be afraid to complain.  Remember, education is the best prevention!
