Baton Rouge Raid Leads to Counterfeiting Arrest

Today agents made one arrest and seized 3,082 pieces of fake designer shoes and purses with an estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1 million in a raid of a Baton Rouge store, announced Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Office of Homeland Security Investigations conducted a sweep at Fashion Express located at 5956 Airline Hwy. Bocar Ba, 43, of 11888 Old Hammond Hwy was arrested and charged with illegal use of counterfeit trademark in connection with the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods. This arrest comes as part of a joint investigation between the agencies.

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell stated, “Once again this illustrates my commitment to maintaining a level playing field for our good Louisiana businesses. There are unscrupulous individuals out there selling everything from fake handbags to prescription medicines. Counterfeit goods seriously harm our legitimate Louisiana businesses and often endanger the safety of our citizens. Such criminal activity will not be tolerated.”

Coming soon, the attorney's general office seeks to provide a mechanism by which to take online payments for collections.
