Columbia woman charged with Medicaid fraud

A Columbia woman has been booked with Medicaid fraud for filing false claims, announced Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

Erlene Linder, 58, of 402 White Perch Road, surrendered to Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigators today for arrest and was charged with one count of Medicaid fraud and one count of filing false public records. Linder was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Linder, a direct care service worker, is accused of submitting false timesheets to her employer claiming to be providing services to Medicaid patients at the patients’ homes. An investigation revealed that Linder was actually visiting her son at Louisiana State Penitentiary during the same times and dates she claimed to be providing services to the Medicaid patients.

Direct care service workers are hired by Medicaid providers to assist elderly and disabled persons with daily tasks such as house cleaning, cooking and grocery shopping.

If convicted, Linder could face up to 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines.

To report suspected Medicaid fraud, please contact the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit at 1-888-799-6885.
