Court of Appeals Keeps Convicted Murder Behind Bars

BATON ROUGE, LA – A convicted murderer set for release today at 5:00 PM will remain behind bars after an appeals court reversed the district judge.

Last week, a civil judge in the 19th Judicial District Court issued an order to release Bobby Sneed on parole, who was convicted of 2nd Degree Murder. As the ruling usurped the authority of the Governor and the Committee on Parole, attorneys for the Louisiana Department of Justice immediately appealed to the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals and asked for a stay of the order.

Today, the Court of Appeals reversed the decision and vacated the order to release Mr. Sneed.

“I am proud of the work of Assistant Attorney General Grant Willis and my Criminal Division to keep this murderer off our streets,” said Attorney General Jeff Landry. “As crime rates rise in Louisiana and across the country, my office will continue to do all we can to protect Louisiana citizens and ensure they are not subject to further harm from violent offenders.”
