NEW ORLEANS, LA – Attorney General Jeff Landry’s Cyber Crime Unit (CCU)
has arrested a New Orleans man on charges of possession and distribution of
sexual abuse images of children.
“It is encouraging to see what law enforcement agencies
can do when they work together,” said General Landry. “We will continue to
collaborate with our local, state, and federal partners to fight crime in our
cities.”
Nicolas Varela, 28 of New Orleans, was booked on 30
counts of Sexual Abuse Images/Videos of Children. He was arrested and booked
into the Orleans Parish Prison following a joint investigation between the
Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) CCU and the New Orleans Police Department.
“Our office is diligent in investigating and arresting
those who prey on children” said General Landry. “We will continue to use every
tool we have to find these perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
General Landry’s CCU has investigated thousands of
computer crimes that have victimized children from infants to 16 years of age.
