BREAKING: Attorney General Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation agents with assistance from US Marshals arrest former OPSO correctional employee and girlfriend of Derrick Groves for aiding in his escape
Agents with Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and US Marshals coordinated to arrest a former correctional center employee at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office and the girlfriend of Derrick Groves for aiding in his escape.
On May 27, agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation obtained an arrest warrant for 28-year-old Darriana Burton, of St. Peters Street in New Orleans, in connection with the recent escape of multiple inmates from the OPSO Correctional Center.
On June 9, deputies with the United States Marshals Service located Burton in the 2600 block of St. Peters Street, where she was taken into custody without incident.
Burton is facing a felony charge of Conspiracy to Commit Simple Escape related to her alleged involvement in facilitating the escape.
Burton is believed to be the current girlfriend of Derrick Groves. We have confirmed they were in an on-again, off-again relationship for three years.
Burton was also employed at the Sheriff’s Office from August 2022 until March 2023. She was arrested and charged for bringing contraband into the jail and malfeasance in office in 2023. Burton was ultimately fired by the Sheriff’s Office when this came to light. It's been determined that the charges were refused in October of 2024 by the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office.
This arrest was the result of a joint effort between the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and the US Marshals Service and follows an ongoing joint investigation involving state and local law enforcement agencies.
“We will continue to pursue anyone and everyone who has aided and abetted these criminals. We will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you to the full extent of the law. I’d like to thank the US Marshals Service for executing our warrant for this woman. We will eventually get Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves back to prison where they belong,” said Attorney General Murrill
Burton has been transported to the Plaquemines Parish Jail.
No additional information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation, which is ongoing at this time.
*All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
