Former nursing assistant in Baton Rouge indicted for Negligent Homicide
A former nursing assistant at a facility in Baton Rouge has been indicted by a grand jury after an investigation by Attorney General Liz Murrill's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
On June 14, 2024, Diamond Johnson was employed as a certified nursing assistant at Jefferson Manor when she operated a hydraulic lift by herself.
Johnson used the lift to move the patient from a chair to her bed. During the lift process the patient slipped out the side of the sling, landing on the feet of the lift. The patient became unresponsive approximately 40 minutes after the fall. Resuscitation efforts of the patient were unsuccessful.
An autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of death which revealed the patient passed away from complications of blunt force injuries due to fall from a patient lift at the nursing home.
On October 2, 2025, grand jury proceeding took place which resulted in an indictment of Diamond Johnson for:
- La R.S. 14:32, Negligent Homicide.
Johnson was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Her bond information is unknown at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
